Types of Aid
There are several types of financial aid, including grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study to help you and your family pay for college. Financial aid awards may include a combination of various types of aid. CCD’s Financial Aid Office can advise you regarding the types of financial aid and scholarship opportunities available. Most financial aid programs require you to enroll at least half-time (six or more credits). Some scholarships may require full-time enrollment.
Grants
Grants are free forms of student financial aid. Most grants do not require repayment, though some grants may need to be repaid if you drop, withdraw from, or fail courses.
Work Study
Work-study provides a funding source for students who need to work part-time to support their educational expenses and is an excellent opportunity to gain relevant work experience.
Student Loans
Student loans can be a valuable tool to help you realize your educational and career dreams. Loans should, however, be the last option you consider.

What to Expect
Our dedicated staff and support services help you navigate the legal language and get through the first hurdle to completing your educational goals.
Step one is applying for aid through the FAFSA or CASFA (undocumented students only) online.
It takes about one week for CCD to receive your financial aid application (FAFSA) after you submit it online. Once we receive your FAFSA, we will send a notice listing any missing information to your mailing address (new students only) or your CCD-issued student email address. Follow up with our team to complete your file so we can see if you qualify for financial aid. After submitting the required documents to our office, allow one to two weeks for your paperwork to be processed and your aid to be awarded. Once you've been awarded financial aid, we will send you an award notice.
Fall semester priority deadlines for on-time processing
- August 1st – FAFSA/CASFA (undocumented students only) due
- August 15th – all required financial aid paperwork is due
- Monday of the week before the start of the semester – tuition due
- One week before the start of the semester - Book purchases are available at the bookstore for eligible students
- Monday after census (for 15-week term) – first round of financial aid disbursements
Spring semester priority deadlines for on-time processing
- December 15th - FAFSA/CASFA (undocumented students only) due
- January 2nd - all required financial aid paperwork due
- Monday of the week before the start of the semester – tuition due
- One week before the start of the semester - Book purchases are available at the bookstore for eligible students
- Monday after census (for 15-week term) – first round of financial aid disbursements
Summer semester priority deadlines for on-time processing
- May 1st - FAFSA/CASFA (undocumented students only) due
- May 15th - all required financial aid paperwork due
- Monday of the week before the start of the semester – tuition due
- One week before the start of the semester - Book purchases are available at the bookstore for eligible students
- Monday after census (for 15-week term) – first round of financial aid disbursements
Students are responsible for setting up payment before the tuition due date if their financial aid award is not enough to cover their tuition and fee charges. Disbursement occurs after Census (the last day to drop a 15-week course).
Financial aid funds are released into your tuition balance after the last day to drop a full semester class each semester (Census Date). Book advances are automatically sent to you (if you are eligible) before classes begin and every week until the Census Date.
