Celebrating CCD Foundation Scholarship Awardees

Every scholarship awarded by the Community College of Denver (CCD) Foundation is more than an investment in education—it’s a step toward changing lives, uplifting families, and strengthening our communities.

CCD Foundation is proud to celebrate its Fall 2024 Foundation Scholarship Awards. Students are working hard toward their goals, and we are delighted to partner with the community to help support them in their academic journey.

Thanks to the generosity of individual donors, corporate sponsors, and community partners, $460,000 has been awarded to 300 CCD students this fall alone. This funding has the power to open doors to brighter futures, breaking socio-economic barriers for students and uplifting their entire families, paving the way for educational success and workforce contributions that strengthen their communities.

Originally from Sonsonate, El Salvador, Damaris Valencia joined CCD as a paralegal studies student.

Paralegal studies student, Damaris Valencia, dreams of making a difference in the world through the legal field. With scholarships from the Colorado Bar Foundation & the Horner Estes Opportunity Fund, she is closer than ever to that dream. Damaris had this to say:

“Your generosity brings me closer to achieving my dream of a meaningful career in the legal field, where I can give back to the community and make a difference in people’s lives.”

This fall, the CCD Foundation has introduced multi-term scholarships, making it easier for students to continue to the spring semester without the uncertainty of re-applying each semester. This shift means that students can focus on their education and continue their learning journey.

This innovation, informed by practices from CCD’s Moon Shot for Equity initiative–a partnership with EAB made possible by a generous grant from the Wana Brands Foundation–demonstrates how donor support fuels meaningful, long-term change.

Congratulations to Damaris and the other inspiring scholarship recipients! A special CityHawk thank you to all our scholarship supporters – the individuals, organizations, and corporations who make these scholarships and opportunities possible. The CCD Foundation would not be able to do this incredible work for our students without support and partnership from the Denver community.

You, too, can make an impact on students like Damaris, allowing others to receive the education they deserve by donating to the CCD Foundation. Colorado Gives Day, December 10, is the perfect time to do so! For a limited time, when you set up recurring monthly donations through the Colorado Gives Foundation, they will match your January 2025 donation dollar for dollar up to $100. Leave a lasting impression on not just students, but for what they will do in our community.
