Follow Up on Today’s Events on the Auraria Campus

CityHawks,

Just after 4:00 p.m. today, the Auraria Campus Police and Denver Police Departments responded to a stabbing that occurred near the Mile High Light Rail Station, near the intersection of Walnut and 5th Streets.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Auraria Police sent out a campus alert at 4:12 p.m. in conjunction with the initiation of the campus lockdown protocol. At this time, it does not appear that neither the victims nor suspects are affiliated with CCD or the Auraria campus.

A second text alert was sent out just before 5:00 p.m. indicating that there was a suspect in custody and Denver Police Department, which has investigative jurisdiction, also tweeted around that time that there was no longer a threat to the campus.

The campus has now safely reopened.

Many thanks to you and to our tri-institutional partners for observing this alert, and for your care and concern for our fellow CityHawks!

Respectfully,

Marielena DeSanctis, Ph.D., President
Community College of Denver
