What if there were an easier way to obtain your high school diploma that could also lead directly into a certification course and/or send you on the path to receiving a college degree? Community College of Denver (CCD) now offers a High School Diploma Program. CCD wants to help you fast track your academic journey and career!
This new program is specifically designed for adults that have not earned a high school diploma in the United States at a low cost and a flexible schedule. Humans do not learn at the same rate as others nor do our lives have the same trajectory, and CCD understands that. That is why students can finish in as little as five weeks or take up to one year.
Jennifer Canete, a recent graduate of the program, is a 45-year-old stay at home mom and wife of a U.S. Army veteran. Putting her family first has always been a priority. When asked what prompted her to get her diploma, her response was, “When I was younger, I didn't like my high school and felt unsupported and dropped out. Later, I attended another program, passed all the classes, however I didn't do well on the test and did not get my diploma. I've wanted to do this for a long time now, so when my sister [who works at CCD] told me about this opportunity, I was excited.”
CCD’s High School Diploma Program offers three subjects to get students on their way to achieving their own version of success: Math, English, and Civics. Each subject is broken down into a specialized curriculum such as Quantitative Literacy for math, Composition & Reading for English, and Special Topics in Civics. All courses are designed to prepare students for college-level courses. Canete said the coursework was “engaging and provided a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter.”
“I want to first and foremost thank my sister Jessica LanFranco [Student Success Technology Manager] who told me about this program, Josh Margolin [Assistant Director, Admissions, Recruitment, & Staff Outreach] for his guidance, Carlos Lopez [Director, Momentum Credit & Testing Staff] for being so calming during the testing phase. Tami Spicer-Dormuth [Program Chair, Economics, Geography, History, Political Science and Associate Professor] for being supportive with the course and everyone at CCD who made this possible for me,” added Canete.
As the program expands, CCD looks forward to supporting every student that goes through the High School Diploma Program and ensuring they are accomplishing their own personal and professional goals. Our experts are not here to solely teach but also guide and encourage every CityHawk.
