Community College of Denver Launches Tuition-Free High School Diploma Program

Denver, CO (February 13, 2025) – The Community College of Denver (CCD), a leading provider of accessible and affordable higher education, is proud to announce its tuition-free high school diploma program for adults. The program, which requires a one-time $50 fee, is designed to help those looking for a low-cost and convenient way to complete their high school diploma. Having a high school diploma can open additional employment opportunities, unlock access to federal financial aid, and offer an easy transition into certificate and degree programs.

The new diploma program was made possible by the passage of Senate Bills 23-007 and 24-51 and approval from The State Board for Community Colleges and Occupational Education. This allows CCD to develop new diploma standards and programs that are relevant for adult learners.

The program stands out from other non-profit and community college options by offering a competency-based curriculum, evening and weekend schedules, the opportunity to receive credit for prior learning, and the option to take up to three courses simultaneously to earn the high school diploma.

In addition to the one-time $50 fee, CCD’s high school diploma program requires an advisory meeting to assist with course placement and program onboarding. Classes meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and on Saturday mornings to accommodate most working adult schedules. Classes are in-person, but students can attend remotely when needed.

“Students can complete the program in as little as five weeks or take up to one year to finish if they stay on track with the work,” said Josh Morgolin, program director. “Advisors are provided to assist with program planning and to help design an academic path toward additional certification and degrees for those interested, as well as to assist with employment and career guidance.”

"We are excited to welcome this group of students to our community of learners and offer them an affordable, supportive and resource-enhanced environment to advance their education,” said CCD President Marielena P. DeSanctis, Ph.D. “We believe this program will help adults achieve their academic goals, improve their job prospects, strengthen our workforce and grow our community through their unique contributions."

Diploma student benefits include access to the following Auraria Higher Education resources:

  • Student Centers: Welcoming spaces for studying, socializing and accessing support services.
  • Auraria Library: Access to extensive research materials, computers and quiet study areas.
  • Tutoring and Counseling Services: Free academic support and career planning.
  • Seamless transition to college: This program aligns with the Community College of Denver’s requirements, helping to transition a high school diploma student to CCD degree and certificate programs.

CCD will begin conferring diplomas in early 2025. Space is limited, so those interested are encouraged to apply here
