Denver, CO - November 7, 2024 — The Community College of Denver (CCD) is proud to announce its recent designation as a First Generation-Serving Institution by the Colorado Department of Higher Education (CDHE). This recognition underscores CCD’s commitment to supporting first-generation students and providing the resources they need to thrive academically and personally. This designation, based on enrollment, reflects CDHE’s dedication to promoting educational equity and student success.

The timing of this designation perfectly coincided with CCD’s annual First Generation Celebration, held earlier today on campus. The event highlighted the accomplishments of first-generation students, fostering a welcoming space for the community to engage, learn, and celebrate together.

First Generation Celebration Event Highlights:

• Celebration Stations in Cherry Creek and Confluence Buildings: 8:30-9:30 a.m.
• Celebration Party in Confluence Assembly Rooms:
  • Games & Small Eats: 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
  • Luncheon with Guest Speakers: 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Attendees enjoyed a morning of engaging activities and shared stories from first-generation students and alumni who have blazed new trails as the first in their families to pursue higher education.
