DENVER, Colo. (September 23, 2022) – Community College of Denver (CCD) has announced it has named Gillian McKnight-Tutein, Ed.D., as interim provost and vice president of Academic Affairs, promoted Tina Garcia to interim vice president of Enrollment Administration and Student Success, and promoted Angelica Rueda to interim dean of Enrollment Administration and Student Success.
“Dr. Gillian McKnight-Tutein, Tina Garcia, and Angelica Rueda have consistently shown their true passion for not only education but for every student and staff member at the Community College of Denver,” said CCD President Marielena P. DeSanctis, Ph.D. “We are certain they will continue the mission of making the Community College of Denver the community’s college.”
As interim provost, Gillian McKnight-Tutein, Ed.D., will be responsible for continuing to define CCD’s strategy, providing steadfast leadership, and overseeing all educational affairs and activities. She brings her passion for supporting the academic goals of CCD’s students to her new role, having previously served as vice president of Enrollment Administration & Student Success. Prior to joining CCD, McKnight-Tutein was the vice president of Academic and Student Affairs and the Senior Academic Officer for Front Range Community College’s three campuses. She has served on several councils, including SCL Health (now Intermountain) Front Range Board of Directors. She received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Florida International University in Miami, Fla. McKnight-Tutein also received her Master of Science in Human Resources Development in Administration and a Doctorate in Instructional Technology and Distance Education from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Tina Garcia will focus on expanding and increasing opportunities for student engagement and success in her new role as the interim Vice President of Enrollment Administration and Student Success. A member of CCD’s faculty since 2002, Garcia brings more than 26 years of counseling experience and academic knowledge to the students at CCD. She has served in a multitude of roles since joining the college, from educational case manager to dean of Student Services. The first-generation college graduate received her bachelor’s degree in Human Services and her Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology and Counselor Education from Metropolitan State University of Denver and the University of Colorado Denver.
Angelica Rueda brings more than 20 years of experience developing programs and working with historically underrepresented student populations to expand college access and create spaces for student success to her new role as interim Dean of Enrollment Administration and Student Success. Before joining CCD, she worked in Denver Public Schools and has dedicated her career to focusing on matters affecting first-generation, low-income, and students of color. As a person who relates to each of these identities, she connects with CCD students and works to remove barriers from their pathways to success. Born in Juarez, Chihuahua, and raised in Denver, Colorado, Angelica holds a Baccalaureate from the University of Southern California in Sociology and Humanities and a Master’s in Student Affairs in Higher Education from Colorado State University in 2017.
