The Digital Zone wants to help students build the skills they need and receive certifications to help achieve their goals.
Northstar Digital Literacy is a program that provides individualized training of essential skills required for computers and online resources. Within Northstar, there are three (3) standards-based modules:
Northstar learners can use self-guided modules to assess their ability to perform basic digital skills, receive guided online training, and complete official assessments to receive certifications that demonstrate their growth and accomplishments. These can be used as credentials within job applications to prove competency in the common tools of the workplace.
If you would like to use our tool for learning digital literacy and getting certified, click the button, complete the intake form, and register.
This page serves as a portal for CCD and non-CCD students to access Northstar Digital Literacy self-paced modules.
Students enrolled at Community College of Denver can receive support with Northstar through the Digital Zone. We offer one-on-one coaching or workshops on digital literacy, including:
Digital Zone tutors can also proctor students who desire to earn certifications in any Northstar module. All EXCEL professional tutoring is free to current CCD students and is located on the 4th floor of the Confluence building.
Who makes digital stories?
You can! CCD students and staff with virtually any skill level can create a video and share their stories. You can make videos for a class assignment or for a scholarship. Watch our featured videos below to see a few examples from CCD students and staff.
Why do we make digital stories?
Unique to digital storytelling is how it develops critical thinking skills through an individual's creativity, self-reliance, and fundamental digital media skills to engage an audience for various academic, professional, or personal uses.
What should my digital story be about?
The possible interpretations are endless. Some ideas from past participants include:
Some of these example videos were projects from class. Some were purely personal creations. The Digital Story Fest seeks to celebrate the tradition of digital storytelling at CCD by highlighting both the academic as well as the personally inspired, and we encourage you to draw your own connection when creating your own Digital Story.
Check out Digital Storytelling Guides for handouts related to Digital Storytelling as well as WeVideo video guides.
All new requests for WeVideo student access should be made through the registration form. Students must use their CCD-provided student email ending with @student.cccs.edu and provide information on why access to WeVideo is needed. Student access to WeVideo is reviewed and approved on a semester basis, meaning WeVideo access ends at the end of each semester and reverts to a free account. Once students receive a premium account, they can log in directly to WeVideo.com.
Faculty gain WeVideo access as part of their completion of the Digital Storytelling Certificate training and ongoing participation in the digital storytelling program.
Anyone can receive 1:1 digital storytelling support by scheduling an appointment with EXCEL Zone's Digital Zone tutors. For online tutoring sessions click on the “Online Sessions” tab to book. For students interested in gaining a Digital Storytelling Certificate, the EXCEL Zone offers training that includes digital storytelling fundamentals and using WeVideo and to create a digital story.
