Philosophy
Do you want to learn to think carefully and well about life’s most compelling questions? If so, you might be a philosophy major! Our program is designed for you to complete the first two years of a bachelor's degree at CCD and transfer to a university to complete a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in philosophy.
This program teaches you to read, write, and think critically about current issues and life’s enduring questions. As you progress through our highly interactive program, you will explore diverse worldviews and hone your particular take on the world.
In encountering timeless works and new classics, you will wrestle with engaging moral dilemmas, explore the nature of reality, and contemplate the contrast between knowledge and belief.
Throughout this process, you will cultivate critical reading, writing, and thinking skills that will apply to many careers, including law, politics, government, business, science, and education.
Academic support is provided through CCD’s Excel Zone, which helps students succeed by offering a variety of learning opportunities. We are located on campus on the 4th floor of the Confluence building.
CCD Online offers fully online certificates and degrees, and individual online courses to help match your busy schedule. This program offers between 88 to 97 percent of its degree either online or through a hybrid program.
Your first step is to see if online learning is right for you. Online and hybrid environments offer much more flexibility but require more self-direction and self-discipline. Certain work habits, learning styles and skills contribute to a successful online or hybrid learning experience.
